Khula' - Shaykh 'Ubayd al-Jaabiree

Khulʿ (Arabic: خلع), also called khula', is a procedure through which a woman can gain a divorce from her husband, by returning the dower (mahr) or something else that she received from her husband or without returning anything, as agreed by the spouses or Qadi's (court) decree depending on the circumstances.

Shaykh 'Ubayd ibn Abdullah ibn Sulaymaan al-Jaabiree (hafidhahullah Ta'ala) was asked the following during a Q&A session that took place during the 2013 Salafi Publications Conference

Question: "For the woman who seeks khul', to be separated from her husband.  What is the period of her iddah, that period where she stays without being married thereafter?"

The question was asked and translated by Abdulilah Lahmami (hafidhahullah Ta'ala).

Our Shaykh (hafidhahullah Ta'ala) gave the following answer:

Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever invites to guidance will be rewarded like those who follow him in the guidance are rewarded, and that will not decrease the reward of those who have followed him." [Collected by Imām Muslim]
