Here is a very important reminder for us all from Abu Suhailah Umar Quinn (hafidhahullath Ta'ala) about the importance of abandoning self-amazement and taking account of ourselves before a time we are taken account of.
Abu Suhailah (hafidhahullah Ta'ala) says: "...The most dangerous and harmful thing therefore to the self is to ignore the self-accounting. To abandon this self-accounting and getting carried away with this negligence and just letting things pass without taking yourself to account. Because this leads a person very quickly to destruction. Such a person closes his eyes and he doesn't look at the consequences of what he has done. He just lets the state that he is in persist without doing anything about it and he relies upon Allâh perhaps forgiving him and pardoning him when he meets Him. And therefore he neglects to reckon with himself and to look at the final consequence of his, or the final outcome of his behaviour when he does that then it is easy for him to commit sins. He is comfortable with falling into those sins, and it is hard for him to wean himself off of those sins. If he was guided in his behaviour then he would already know that 'Preventing is easier than curing' safeguarding himself from falling into these things would have been easier for him than weaning himself off of his addiction to these behaviours."
