Here is a misunderstanding that some have and some others promote.
That, it is essential that you have a position of authority before you can aid the religion of al-Islam".
Not everyone can give da'wah. In order to be successful in the hereafter the only way to achieve that is not by just giving lectures.
There are many ways in which you can aid the spreading of this religion. What is important, is that it be done sincerely seeking the pleasure of Allah and be in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alahi wa sallam).

During the biography of Khalid ibn Waleed (radiAllahu anhu) he mentions that Khalid was removed from the position of being the commander of the army during the Khilafah of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (radiAllahu anhu), a position of authority, but he was not disheartened and continued aiding the religion of al-Islam in any way that he could.
Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever invites to guidance will be rewarded like those who follow him in the guidance are rewarded, and that will not decrease the reward of those who have followed him." [Collected by Imām Muslim]
