Abu Suhailah 'Umar Quinn (hafidhahullah Ta'ala) starts the lecture with the following introduction, which I highly recommend that you read, prior to listening to the lecture, barak Allahu feekum!:
He says: "I have a very important advice to give and it is something that I hope by the permission of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala that the sisters will benefit from and I hope by the permission of Allah (subhanahu wa Ta’ala) that the brothers will benefit from and the advice that I have to give is concerning what we find with some Muslim women not just in this country and not just in western society but everywhere in the world and many countries where the people have been affected by western culture or they have been affected by concepts that are un-Islamic. Whether that came from the west or whether that came from some Muslims who had some deviance or whatever the case. And it is the issue of a woman having a bad attitude. Woman having a bad and a negative attitude whether that is towards her husband or towards her children or towards any member of the community or anybody who is a non-Muslim. A man he may arrive in his home one day, he feels so good. He’s almost whistling! He comes home everything is all right! He just worked very hard all day. Took care of his business. He prayed in the masjid. He talked with his brothers. He picked something up for his wife on the way home and he comes in the house and there’s a storm inside! it’s raining and it’s pouring! He doesn’t know what the problem is! Without a doubt, there are some people who, if they knew the reality of their situation and the reality of their behavior! Some sisters that if they knew the reality of their behavior and the reality of their etiquettes or their lack thereof. Rather towards their husband, That they would know that the majority of their time is spent in what is full blown nushūz (marital discord). Full blown nushūz every day she’s on a different level of nushūz. She is the embodiment of marital discord and she thinks that this behavior, that her character. that it is something that makes her respectable or something that makes her honorable and she thinks that it is a demonstration of what she thinks of some type of strength. We want to talk today about the reality of this problem because it is on different levels some women they have it a little and some women they have it a lot and we’re not saying that the brothers are excluded from this because we’re going to talk about the reason for the attitudes of some of our sisters and acknowledge that a great part of the problem many times is us and we’re going to talk about the harms of this problem if it is not solved and we’re going to talk about the cure and the solution for this issue."
