Is talking or communicating via WhatsApp and other platforms where you are not speaking directly meaning that you’re not speaking verbally or vocally to the opposite sex to look for a potential person to gauge in terms of characteristics for marriage then is that permissible?

In a recent Q&A session that was delivered by Hasan as-Somali (hafidhahullah Ta'ala) was asked the following question:

At the beginning of a lecture that I titled: Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa'ah, that was delivered by Abu Khadeejah Abdul-Waahid (hafidhahullah Ta'ala) delivered at Germantown Masjid in 2014, he (hafidhahullah Ta'ala) mentioned some words about Abu Uwais Abdullah Ali and Abu Talhah Dawud Burbank (rahimahullah Ta'ala).

This is lecture that was delivered at Masjid as-Sunnah an-Nabawiyyah more popularly known as Germantown Masjid that I found on YouTube.  At the beginning of it Abu Khadeejah Abdul-Waahid (hafidhahullah Ta'ala) dates it as the 7th Sha’ban 1435 / Thursday 5^th June 2014.

I was unable to locate the name of the lecture, as such I have given it the title mention above.
